bnCrime in Charlotte is declaring the weekend’s blue ribbon campaign a success, with over $2,200 raised for the families of Officers Shelton and Clark.

Certainly some good news in the midst of a complete horror show.

However, I don’t mean to be harsh but someone has to do it, all the ribbons in the world will not matter if Charlotte-Mecklenburg goes back to treating violent crime as an afterthought among government priorities.

Just think what even half of CATS’ transit tax bounty could do — $35 million a year for adequate juvenile detention facilities, prosecutors, and a functioning criminal justice system. As The Rhino Times reported this week, CMPD made 39,000 arrests last year and only 1,000 cases went to trial.

Let’s see which local officials are serious about making a change in that ratio.
