In a 4-1 vote, the Board of Elections directed Wake County to proceed with the runoff election between John Tedesco and Cathy Truitt, even though Truitt rescinded her request for a runoff. Board member Bill Peaslee cast the only vote against the motion.

I would have liked to hear more consideration of Peaslee’s argument that there is a fundamental difference between withdrawing from a race and rescinding a request for a runoff. The other board members appeared to want to simply conflate the two concepts.
