That sound you heard is Rick Bonnell’s head a-splodin’.

Even though the Uptown paper of record’s chief Bobcat correspondent completely dismissed the idea, none other than Michael Jordan is riding to the rescue of Bobcat Johnson.

Jordan will be part owner of the Bobcats, as well as joining Johnson’s far-flung financial empire on several fronts.

This move made sense when we first passed along the rumblings of a Jordan-Bobcat hook-up several weeks ago. And only now does adding veteran Uptown insider Mac Everett to the the Bobcat front-office mix begin to make sense. Everett is to do the legwork and schmooze Charlotte’s business community and Jordan provides the star power.

And, depending on the percentage of the team Jordan owns, Johnson gets to reduce his financial exposure in his Bobcat operation. This is not a small consideration to a man who vowed not to lose money on an NBA franchise, yet has done just that — despite the Bobcats’ league-low payroll number.

All-in-all, very interesting news — for some out there, at least. For Meck Deck readers, not so much.

Update: Johnson in his own words on the deal. Jordan will have a player personnel role, as we initially reported.
