Directors of state agencies have another reason to wish they ran federal agencies. While Gov. Perdue has proposed a budget for FY2010 that is $300 million smaller than the current fiscal year (1.43%), Pres. Obama has ordered his Cabinet officials to find $100 million in savings to “send a signal we are serious.” Maybe it would be easier to believe if that $100 million made up more than 0.0028% of the $3.6 trillion federal budget in FY2010.

While the state budget could be a lot better, Pres. Obama is doing his best to remind us that it could also be worse.
