There seems to be some confusion over what exactly will (or won’t) happen if a ballot measure before Lewisville residents passes:

Lewisville voters will be asked on Nov. 6 if they are for or against “the acquisition of land to be used for parks and/or recreational purposes, provided that adequate funding is legally available for the town’s use, including property taxes.

Town council candidate Fred Franklin has sent out a letter to voters saying that a ‘yes’ vote “will be a vote to increase your property taxes.” Mayor Pro Tem Mike Horn called the letter “bunk,” while Mayor Tom Lawson said whether or not the acquisition of parkland will lead to tax increase would depend on a lot of factors.”

All I know is we constantly hear assurances from public officials that such-and-such measure won’t cause property taxes to go up. And what happens? Property taxes keep going up. This is a classic case of give government an inch, and they’ll take a mile. Err on the side of caution, Lewisville voters.
