At Monday’s meeting of the Asheville Schools Board of Education, Assistant Superintendent for Business Timothy Amos remarked that if he had his say he would use the money spent administering the program overseeing who gets free lunches to buy free lunches for all kids in the system. According to the school’s budget report, $1,748,455 is “hereby appropriated for the operation of the school administrative unit in the Child Nutrition Fund.” How much of this, if any, is spent on food is not specified.
