Jim Lehrer, in a PBS interview set to air tonight, tried obsessively to get President Bush to comment on the NYT story about intelligence officials intercepting international calls after 9/11.

Lehrer said it was “all over the world” and on “the front page of the New York Times, the Washington Post, every newspaper in America today.”

Bush responded: “It’s not the main story of the day. … The main story of the day is the Iraqi election. …”

Judging from the nation’s front pages, the President is right. In most cases the Iraqi election was played bigger than the latest NY Times manufactured “scoop.”
