A professor at Lake Superior State University (in Sault Ste. Marie, MI) is in trouble because the administration at the school thinks that various cartoons and photos on his office door constitute “harassment” and create a “hostile environment” for tender students. Inside Higher Ed has the story.
I’d bet my golf clubs (not that I get to use them much) that this is a case of selective enforcement. Are there leftist faculty members at LSSU who have had stuff on their office doors expressing their views who have not been ordered to get rid of it?
And even if this isn’t selective enforcement, there shouldn’t be any enforcement at all. Part of growing up is learning that people can hold different opinions and still be civil. The action by LSSU tells students not that they should deal with disagreement, but rather that they should whine about harassment when they encounter ideas they don’t like.
