From the CBO’s latest report:

“The unsustainable nature of the federal government’s current tax and spending policies presents lawmakers and the public with difficult choices,” the CBO wrote in its latest report on the long-term budget outlook.

Unless “substantial changes are made to the major health care programs and Social Security,”  in the future those programs will drain an ever larger amount of the total economy’s output, the report warns.

I fear we are past the point of no return when it comes to the federal fiscal mess. Government assistance, in its many forms, is now a way of life for tens of millions of Americans, and an expectation. That is why we must look to the states, including North Carolina, where fiscally responsible legislators and governors are reforming government operations and putting their states on the path to a sound economic future.
