As promised, here’s the e-survey that the Charlotte Chamber is circulating to members:

Do you support or oppose the existing half cent sales tax investment in transit?

Support
Oppose

Should the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce continue to support the transit program?

Yes
No

Do you think the investment in transit is important to Charlotte’s future?

Yes
No

If another referendum is held, should the Charlotte Chamber play a leading role in support of transit?

Yes
No

Would you like to be a part of a campaign to support Transit funding if such a campaign is necessary?

Yes
No

Starts off clear enough, then plows into loaded assumptions.

Should the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce continue to support the transit program? Does that mean the $9 billion CATS transit program or the very idea of a transit program for Charlotte? Two very different things.

Do you think the investment in transit is important to Charlotte’s future? Wha? Way, way too dopey for a sharp Chamber audience.

How about this: Is the current level of investment in mass transit too large? Too small? About right?

If another referendum is held, should the Charlotte Chamber play a leading role in support of transit? Again, the this $9 billion transit plan or zippy transit plan false dichotomy. And make no mistake, the “leading role” bit means money. Lotsa money.

Would you like to be a part of a campaign to support Transit funding if such a campaign is necessary? Oooh, now it is “Transit” with a capital T. Translation: Would you like to score some brownie points and face time with the Powers That Be?

And most obviously: Absolutely no mention of CATS in the official Chamber survey on mass transit in Charlotte. Think that word might test bad?

Just a very sad performance by Charlotte’s supposed pro-business voice.
