The Charlotte Observer reports that current City Manager Ron Carlee won’t ask for an extension of his current three-year contract, which is up at the end of next month, though he may stay on until a replacement is found. What’s behind this? Good question, and obvious answer is that several Charlotte City Council members weren’t overwhelmed with Carlee and/or his job performance. Why that might be is a bit less obvious. Possibilities include Carlee being perceived as being too outspoken and the tiff over the firing of Charlotte Fire Department inspector Crystal Eschert.
