Chatham Commissioner: Tax Increases “will have to occur” despite transfer tax defeat

Staunch land transfer tax supporter Mike Cross, a Chatham County commissioner, says that despite voters trouncing the land transfer tax proposal, there are tax increases coming to Chatham. (emphasis is mine)

I think that most voting citizens saw this as an additional tax, where it is actually a tax option,” said Commissioner Mike Cross. “They do not realize that tax increases will have to occur in Chatham County to pay for what’s coming up and I would expect the property tax and the school impact fees will increase.”

A total of 2,566 voted in favor of the tax, while 4,834 voted against it.
