This is what Official Charlotte did not want. An actual lawsuit claiming that Chief Rodney Monroe and the city were responsible for failing to stop Marcus Jackson from sexually assaulting multiple victims while a CMPD patrol officer.

Because the Charlotte city council punted on the question of oversight of Monroe and effectively handed the matter to City Attorney Mac McCarley to settle, the public still does not know how — exactly — Jackson came to be on the streets with a badge and a gun despite repeated indications that he was unfit for duty. Over a half-million dollars worth of settlements have hushed other victims, but not all.

Now the question is if the city rushes in to settle this case or risks a leadership crisis at CMPD by contesting the suit. One central issue remains the 2005 restraining order issued against Jackson which restricted his ability to own a firearm. CMPD has claimed it knew nothing about this order — a stunning admission in and of itself.

But what if that is not true? What if CMPD brass did know about the order and opted to ignore it — then lie about that? Such a conspiracy is precisely the type of thing that a lawsuit would bring to light.

Wonder if Charlotte city council members are paying attention yet.

Update: The UPoR account adds some breast fondling details. You know, on account of it being news and all.
