As I note over at the Reason site, that WaPo clawback story that caused such confusion over Bush’s Social Security plan has been corrected. Neutered even.

Further, I caught the tail end of a CNBC snippet which seemed to indicate that the network tried to get the author of the story on air to discuss it, but the net was rebuffed. Suffice it to say that actual reform of a multi-generational Ponzi scheme threatens far too many entrenched interests for things to proceed without heavy distortion of the facts.

For this reason I continue to hold out that the best hope for real reform lies in a grand shock to system which would include tax, entitlement, and immigration reform in one fell swoop. Then again, I just like loud noises.
