It’s sad when the only source of information about a public university’s search for a high-level official comes as a leak and not through a press release.

I think every taxpayer should be privy to the conversation for who may be the next chancellor at any public university in our state, especially the state’s “flagship university,” the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

We pay for every part of this process, from the meetings, to the interviews, to the paperwork and phone conversations, and eventually the selected official’s salary. And while we’re paying other people to make this selection on our behalf, we are not paying them to keep us in the dark.
