I just now watched part of the replay of last night’s Greensboro City Council meeting. Note the council signed off on $3.3 million to run water and sewer to sites near Piedmont Triad International Airport.

But a more interesting issue that the N&R didn’t mention —- hopefully they’ll follow up —- was the proposal to pull money from the city’s portion of the county occupancy tax to close the $6.1 million gap in the budget for the new aquatic center. The council didn’t take any action, but probably will at next Tuesday’s meeting.

As for the ongoing White Street landfill debate, several citizens of northeast Greensboro did speak before the council opposing any reopening of the landfill. I didn’t hear much constructive debate among council members, other than Robbie Perkins stating that there would be much lobbying of council members among the vendors submitting proposals to make use of the landfill that will satisfy local residents. That’s probably true, and it will be interesting to see who’s doing the lobbying and which council members they’ll be lobbying.
