By my count tomorrow is the 20th day of school, meaning that CMS will have to hand in its official enrollment totals for the new school year. Things could be very interesting.

CMS predicted an increase of 2900 students; early tallies were running half that number. This had the Ed Shed scrambling to blame rainy days for the shortfall. Make no mistake, if enrollment grows by half the expected rate there will be repercussions.

There are already rumblings within CMS that some schools are “too low” and are not likely to fill back up. So it will be vital to understand the latest enrollment numbers and trends on a school-by-school basis. Stay tuned.

Update: Forgot about Labor Day, which means Monday is the official 20th day — and that gives CMS the weekend to think about it.
