Several years hence will we look back at Peter Gorman’s bid to eliminate 135 Ed Center jobs as the start of a CMS turn for the better? Or will it mark the start of endless conflict between Gorman and CMS Status Quo and its defenders on the school board and in the community? Or will we remember it all?

Gorman is attempting a classic corporate restructuring at CMS. He tearing down old power centers, building new ones, and installing his people in them. For the first few months, this was a passive, largely unseen process. A change in org-boxes here, direct reports there. Now Gorman has stepped on the gas.

Will CMS sputter to life or flood out? The next few weeks will be very telling.

Update: The big news of the day will be the new graduation rates released by the State Board of Education. For the first time the numbers will measure how many ninth graders eventually graduate high school. Prepare for some scary numbers.
