Here’s the important takeaway from last night’s school board drama-rama: The public has been told that unless CMS is given more money, schools will close.

Coming on the heels of seemingly purposeful whipping up of the West side immediately prior to a county commission election — an election which preserved the Democratic majority on the commission — the political implications should be obvious. Next year the choices Mecklenburg County residents will hear will be raise taxes (the property tax via the revaluation) or lose your neighborhood school, library, and park. Raise sales taxes (or vehicle fees or both) or lose your subsidized transit and your subsidized re-development opportunities.
