The school board for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools voted down a second motion last night to conduct a comprehensive audit of its free and reduced-lunch program. The vote was 6-2. CMS board members voted the same way Sept. 9 on an identical motion.
Interestingly, the board voted 5-3 the same day to direct Superintendent Peter Gorman to never conduct an audit of F&R lunch unless the USDA guidelines on the topic change.
The issue came to light in early August (reported by CJ here) after a verification summary for 2007-08 found two-thirds of applicants in F&R could not or would not provide proof of income to school officials.
