I don’t often find myself agreeing with editorials in the N&O, but here is one that makes perfectly good sense.

The search committee for a successor to Molly Broad has floated the idea that the compensation for the job needs to be significantly increased — to $500K plus a bunch of good perks. That would be an added $200K for whomever is chosen as the next UNC pres.

This is reminiscent of the often-heard cry at Chapel Hill that the profs must be paid more money lest the university suffer a crippling “brain drain.” Here, the cry is that UNC just won’t be able to get anyone who is good without coughing up all that additional money.
