Just as we told you last week, Mecklenburg County prosecutors seem to be ready to offer a plea deal to Michael Harvey, the man charged with the murder of Valerie Hamilton.
The first telling hint came with Hamilton’s father, Concord police chief Merl Hamilton, letting drop that his daughter’s long sought toxicology/autopsy report could show heroin and cocaine in her system, along with a possible needle mark.
Not to be harsh or uncaring in the face of tremendous loss for a family, but unless CMPD and prosecutors can put a needle in hands of Michael Harvey — and Harvey alone — they do not have a murder case. And pursuing one in this matter would be irresponsible — especially in a community under siege from much greater threats than junkies and small time thieves.
