With less than half of the precincts in, it looks like a Charles Taylor-Heath Shuler matchup in the 11th District. The Republican incumbent Taylor has about 80 percent of the vote with 40 percent of the precincts reporting. Shuler — the former star quarterback and first-time Democratic candidate — has 78 percent of the vote in his primary race with 43 percent of the precincts reporting.
Larry Kissell easily wins the race to face incumbent GOP Rep. Robin Hayes in the 8th District. Kissell has 56 percent of the vote with 75 percent of the precincts reporting. The next candidate has 17 percent of the vote.
Democrat Roger Sharpe appears on his way to face incumbent Rep. Virginia Foxx in the 5th District race in November. Sharpe leads Roger Kirkman 47 percent to 26 percent in a four-person race. That’s with 69 percent of the precincts reporting.
Vernon Robinson wins the 13th District GOP primary with 63 percent of the vote (93 percent of precincts reporting). He’ll face incumbent Democrat Brad Miller in November.
In the 4th District, incumbent Rep. David Price easily wins his three-way primary with nearly 90 percent of the vote.
