Your guess is as good as mine about what — exactly — in going on the with the Charlotte Convention Center. The city is changing plans again amid what sure sounds like a continued money crunch. Surmised bottomline, unless Charlotte gets the NASCAR Hall of Fame — and the hike in the hotel-motel tax to the highest rate on the East Coast to pay for it — there will not be enough money to finish building the CATS light rail station in the middle of the convention center. Got that? Me neither.

I do get that it is an absolute non-starter to contemplate building the CATS station without escalators to route people over the train tracks that will bisect the building. Yet that is what the city is now contemplating as it is millions short of doing things the right way.
