Charlotte attorney Neil Cooksey is looking to replace Dan Bishop in Mecklenburg County’s District 5 board of commissioners slot. Cooksey, a Republican, is a political newcomer but long-time Charlotte resident. District 5 is overwhelmingly Republican, Bishop ran unopposed in the general in 2006 and 2004.
Bishop has opted not to run for re-election.
