NC DOT finally gets the lights on for Charlotte’s pitch-black interstates — using Charlotte’s own road money to do so — and wham someone goes and steals the copper wire out of about one quarter of the new lights.

Now NC DOT will go back and install “tamper proof” panels on the broken lights, News14 reports. Why did it take a theft to do this? Shouldn’t “tamper proof” panels be SOP for NC DOT?

And here’s an, ahem, dark thought — suppose it was an inside job? Sorry, but it needs to be said.
