Those $400 haircuts are proving costly to former senator John Edwards, and I don’t mean in money. Even Democrat-loving columnist Richard Reeves sees through the hypocrisy of “Mr. Two Americas” paying more for a haircut than people in that other America pay for their mortgages.

The candidate, who has been looking pretty and pretty impressive in defining “Two Americas” — one for the rich and privileged, a lesser place for everyone else — came up with a wonderful device to show us all what he meant.

When liberal columnists start making fun of a Democrat, you know you’ve messed up.

UPDATE: It gets worse. The fashion writer for The Washington Post, you know, the one who made fun of Chief Justice John Roberts’ children, also is making fun of Edwards.

UPDATE: Dean Barnett wonders about Edwards’ judgment:

If he had just paid for his own beauty regimen right from the git-go, Amercia would have no reason to picture its potential future wartime leader with a mud-mask and cucumbers over his eyes.
