Item: Judge Tim Smith sends what only can be called a deceptive mailer out touting his campaign’s support among unnamed Republicans.
Item: Sheriff Chip Bailey uses the resources of his office for campaign purposes, a violation of state law. And state and local officials shrug and move on.
Conclusion: Bolstered by repeated examples of incompetence down at the Mecklenburg County courthouse — voters should turn out every single judicial system incumbent on the November ballot.
Nothing else will make a dent in a system which must be torn down to its foundations before it can be rebuilt to serve the public good.
Update: Bailey’s latest campaign filing shows the bulk of contributions came from employee’s of the sheriff’s office.
