Our Crackhead Belway — the world’s cheapest, shoddiest interstate bypass — has claimed two more lives with another wrong-way driver. NC DOT can once again explain how it is a complete and utter mystery how a tiny fraction of the drivers who pound down 485’s dark lanes and interchanges could possibly get going in the wrong direction.

This is the same NC DOT that under-designed 485 as a rural bypass guaranteeing that it would be obsolete almost immediately upon completion — especially the four-lane southern leg between 74 and 77.

But let’s give credit where credit is due. The road-builders only did to 485 what the Down East Kleptocracy in Raleigh told them to do, which was stiff Mecklenburg County for road-building money — for years.

There’s plenty of blame — and blood — to go around.
