As we’ve said over and over, the new old Coliseum didn’t have to die this way. Put another notch in the belt of the Uptown crowd.

My Coliseum high point was absolutely seeing UNC win the first two games of its 2005 NCAA title run in that building AND booing dook loudly along with 20,000 other Tar Heel fans. You knew it great when Coach K whined and complained about the booing, guaranteeing that UNC and dook will never again share an NCAA opening round site in North Carolina.

Update II: The Ogre posts a remembrance of the new old Coliseum from Don Reid and Jim Puckett. They recover a tidbit I don’t remember hearing elsewhere: “As a condition of the sale, the City made the buyer promise not to use the Coliseum as an arena; and that is why it is being demolished.” That’s because we are in the Uptown attraction biz, folks.
