June 12, I said folks at the county would be getting back to me with details on the corporate welfare for Tyco. Well, they did, indirectly and inductively. Reading the Mountain Xpress this morning, I see $37,418 was awarded to create 40 jobs and plow $3.2 million into the economy annually. For those who can’t do math, the ROI = ($3.2 million x any number of years) / $37,418.
During public comment, Buncombe resident Betty Jackson asked: Why does Tyco need taxpayer money to expand? Can’t they expand without taxpayer money? And if they can’t, why should the county support them?
