Williamson: We’re not trying to punish him for moral wrongs. We’re trying to protect the public. Says cluelessness is as dangerous and doing it intentionally. And maybe he shouldn’t be doing what he’s doing. [Sounds like he’s make up his mind on disbarment.]
Witt: Person should be able to make a mistake and learn from it.
Williamson: We don’t give lawyers a pass on stealing clients’ money just because they went 30 years without stealing any money.
Witt: These are egregious mistakes but not intentional egregious mistakes. “I’m not asking for a mulligan” for Mr. Nifong. “We aren’t denying it,” we know we’re going to the second phase.
Other male panel member: As an old school administrator I knew what my job was and what was right and wrong. “The buck stops with him just as it stopped with me.” [Looks like he’s made up his mind too.]
