Every district attorney in North Carolina needs to start doing what Union County DA John Synder is doing: review cases for possible mistakes stemming from State Bureau of Investigation junk science.
Yes, it will be time-consuming, possibly embarrassing, but as officers of the court sworn to pursue justice, DAs have little choice but to do so. And it must be said that in some cases, they had to know this day of reckoning was coming, that the SBI crime lab’s slip-shod practices were not a secret to those who saw them in action on a regular basis.
