Reade Seligmann on the stand. Delbarton School, captain of football and lacrosse teams in senior year. Two-time All-American in lacrosse. Won the Red-Green Fighting Spirit Award at Delbarton. Recruited by all the big lax schools. Iowa, Ga. Tech, Rutgers recruited him in football. Got a 90 percent scholarship at Duke, a very unusual thing to get so much money.
Now we’re getting to the party. Says he didn’t spend much time at that house generally. Says he called a taxi that night at 12:14, left shortly after that. Says his nickname was “Flustered” because he was always worried about doing something wrong. Says he read about the charges in the Duke Chronicle. Says he was not reluctant to give DNA samples. Were told that was the best way to clear things up. “I was more than happy to give DNA.”
Talks about putting shirts over their heads to keep the media from taking pictures. Upon leaving, they ran into Officer Gottlieb and he said, “Listen guys, we’re going to clear everything up. It will be fine.”
Says the story was horrible and “we knew nothing had happened.” Said he believed Gottlieb at the time and felt giving the DNA would clear it all up. Says he was always nervous about the DNA because of watching CSI and things that happen, but still felt that was the best way to clear things up.
