Today the House considered HB91: Registration and Voting at One-Stop Sites.

Under current law, an individual has to register to vote 25 days prior to an election in order to be eligible to vote. If signed into law, HB91 would allow people to register up to 3 days prior to an election and vote the same day at a one-stop early voting site.

Rep. Deborah Ross (D-Wake) sponsored the bill, and said that the bill is about democracy and getting our young people to vote.

Rep. Tim Moore (R Cleveland) offered an amendment that would require a photo ID when registering to vote. Most states require a photo ID.

Several legislators argued that requiring a photo ID restricts people from voting and discriminates. Others argued that it preserves the integrity of the process.
