Former state Rep. Michael Decker’s optometrist delivered an envelope of checks to him, according to testimony in this morning’s N.C. Board of Elections hearing.

David Freeman of Winston-Salem testified that Decker was his patient. He said at least once per election cycle he delivered a business envelope with checks from fellow optometrists.

Freeman says he got the checks from M. Scott Edwards of the N.C. Optometric Society’s political action group. Freeman testified that he would add his own check to the envelope and never looked at the other checks.

Earlier testimony suggests checks from optometrists ended up in Decker’s hands in 2003 — rather than his political campaign fund.
