For months we have heard rumors about $250 penalties for not getting cars inspected.  Arriving home tonight I received one of these notices.  Odd, the car had been inspected months ago, but I received a “Civil Penalty” from the State of North Carolina.

I’m somewhat perplexed as to how to proceed.  I would have thought the burden of proof would have to be on the state.  Since I have the inspection and it was done by a state authorized inspection station with a machine that is connected to and mandated by the state, one would think they’d at least be able to get something so simple correct.

All of this time, effort and energy because a 2001 vehicle needs to be in compliance with the 1990 Clean Air Act.

I’ve also been notified that I am subject to additional penalties and will not be able to register my car (and this has also already occurred so the DMV office at least has updated information.)

And this is a $20 billion forward thinking state???  ARGGHHHHH!!!
