Sens. Richard Burr and and Elizabeth Dole don’t see eye-to-eye on the immigration bill.

Dole opposes the bill because it would “provide a special path to citizenship,” while Burr said he’s “comfortable” with the citizenship issue as long as “somebody leaves the country, applies, passes a criminal check and goes to the end of the line.”

But is Burr not naive to believe illegal immigrants will folllow the mandate that they leave the country and follow the channels put forth in the bill? And doesn’t that support the liberal anti-deportation argument that it would be splitting up families?

No surprise here, but I agree with Rush Limbaugh when he says this bill is worse than doing nothing. Stronger border security along with a zero-tolerance deportation policy would be as effective, the way I see it.

I’ll give you example. There was a traffic accident yesterday in Lexington that left one man dead and two others injured. The accident happened when a vehicle cut off a pickup truck, causing it to run off the road and overturn.

The fatality and the injuries were all in the pickup and were of Hispanic origin. I don’t know for a fact they are illegals (it’s a reasonable assumption), but if turns out they are, then the survivors should be deported as soon as they recover from their injuries. Many would say that’s harsh, since they didn’t do anything that would reveal their status. They were just riding down U.S. 52 when the other guy got in their way. But when you’re leading an existence that’s inherently illegal, things happen that can put you in a place you don’t want to be. In this case, that place is on the other side of the border.
