Lawyers: Right! And we are here to help!

A pox on all the bastards. Posting information on the malpractice payments of North Carolina doctors is long since overdue. Consumers are savvy enough to understand that one or two settlements across a long career is not itself an indicator of poor medical attention.

And of course lawyers are interested in keeping info on settlements as tightly held as possible. Putting up artificial constraints on the flow of information is what that cartel is all about.

As ever, the private market is routing around this. Just recently Angie’s List started posting ratings of medical services. Angie’s is a rating service active in several markets, including Charlotte. Members pay a fee for access to the reports on what started out as household repair services, contractors, and the like but now includes everything under-the-sun.

We been members for several years and found it very worthwhile. Found an ace chair repair guy who makes house calls, for example.

Beat the hell out of calling a lawyer for advice.

Update: Tara Servatius has offered her two-cents on this issue.
