In my recent newsletter, I said that Wilmington was going to be $15,000 short in funding for their annual 4th of July fireworks show. I have since learned that the city of Wilmington will be having it’s $30,000 show as planned thanks to a private donor. See the whole story here.
The city has expressed concern of the 2014 show’s funding, as the Battleship Commission wants to stay open longer on the holiday for more tours. Maybe this private donor and the removal of the battleship will set the stage for more private donors to step up for the fireworks show in Wilmington. The city has many responsibilities; it would be nice if at least local sponsors and/or corporate donations could support the fireworks show instead of taxpayers.
That said, I hope the city of Wilmington enjoys and appreciates this donor’s wonderful gift in honor of his late wife this Independence Day.
