That’s right. The Farm, a special events venue near Selma owned by country music star Scotty McCreery’s future in-laws, is slated to be torn down to become part of a controversial CSX rail terminal as the result of a surprise decision by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
When NCDOT on Wednesday issued a list of projects that qualified for Strategic Transportation Initiative funding, the CSX hub made the grade, even though local landowners are fighting the project and Gov. Pat McCrory reversed his initial endorsement of the CSX terminal.
Notwithstanding the local opposition, if the terminal project moves forward, CSX probably will have to
use eminent domain if needed to acquire the land.
In May, the owner of The Farm, Trent Lassiter, is marrying McCreery’s sister Ashley, and Scotty has a concert scheduled June 4 at The Farm. He may want to dust some Jimmie Rodgers or Hank Williams railroad blues numbers.
