Just heard on the radio that Gail Goestenkors is leaving Duke to go to the University of Texas. Duke Athletics Director Joe Alleva had this to say in an N&O story this morning:
“I think Gail is one of the best coaches in the country,” he said. “We want Gail to stay at Duke …, and we’re going to do whatever we need to do to get her to stay.”
Despite those efforts, apparently she is headed to Austin. I just wonder if the anti-athletics mentality of Duke President Richard Brodhead and the lackluster support that Alleva gave the Duke lacrosse program last spring had anything to do with it.
