How many nanotechnology centers does the Triad need?

The joint UNCG-N.C. A&T nanotechnology center is looking at $4 million for starters. Turns out that Winston-Salem wants a nanotechnology center of its very own:

The N.C. NanoMedicine Institute is exactly the kind of project that this region and state need to continue transforming their economy. The state legislature should support this project with a $15 million allocation.

The proposed institute would be based in Winston-Salem’s Piedmont Triad Research Park and is a joint effort among Wake Forest University, Forsyth Technical Community College and Winston-Salem State University…..

Rep. Larry Womble of Winston-Salem has filed a bill that would allocate $15 million in state money to help start the institute. If the project is successful, that would be money well spent, in terms of economic development for both the area and the state.
