I was driving to work and heard a news report on WPTF-AM about the ranking of American cities from safest to most dangerous (see post below). The announcer mentioned that Charlotte was ranked North Carolina’s most dangerous North Carolina city and Cary was the safest. He went on to say that Raleigh was ranked 162 out of the 371 cities that were ranked. Then he added (paraphrasing here): “Durham was ranked one of North Carolina’s most crime-ridden cities at 272.”
If you look at the poll results you’ll find that Winston-Salem, Fayetteville and Wilmington joined Charlotte as cities with a higher crime rating than Durham, and Durham was only three places behind Greensboro, which ranked 269. So why single out Durham as “one of North Carolina’s most crime-ridden cities”?
