From the News & Observer:

“The wrong time, the wrong priorities,” said Lavonia Allison, chairwoman of the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People and one of the opponents who spoke at a press conference at Devine’s Restaurant & Sports Bar.

Among those joining Allison in opposition is Paul Stone of the N.C. Restaurant and Lodging Associaton and Dallas Woodhouse of Americans for Prosperity N.C. Woodhouse is instrumental in forming the anti-meals tax group, which is called Durham Citizens Against the Food Tax.

The proposed 1 percent tax on prepared food in Durham County, which has the support of the Durham City Council and Durham County Commissioners, will be on the Nov. 4 ballot.

The web site of the opposition group can be found here.

Durham County’s Web site on the proposed tax can be found here.

UPDATE: The pro-tax group is called A Taste for Durham’s Future. It is profiled here but I’m unable to find a Web site.
