Tourists aren’t safe on the Mall in Washington anymore. Former Durham Police uniform patrol commander Dwight Pettiford, by the way is now the chief of the U.S. Park Police. It could not be confirmed that Pettiford responded by saying, “The Mall is as safe as downtown Durham.”
