Rep. Michaux on budget cut: “2 percent is not going to hurt agencies”

I agree completely with Rep. Mickey Michaux (D-Durham), co-chairman of the N.C. House Appropriations Committee, responding to Gov. Mike Easley’s call for state agencies to cut 2 percent from their budgets.

JLF Fiscal Policy Analyst Joe Coletti has some recommendations about how that can be done without much trouble.

The answer we should be requesting from Rep. Michaux is why this money was taken from taxpayer wallets in the first place and appropriated to state agencies, since we now have a confirmation that cutting it “is not going to hurt agencies.”
