The man CMPD charged with attempted murder in the Monday shooting of an East Meck student just off of school campus was on probation for a July 2007 conviction for stealing a car. Robert McClinton was also wanted on felony warrants stemming from a August 20th incident on charges of felony hit and run and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Since his conviction last year that resulted in 24 months of probation, McClinton was arrested several times by CMPD on misdemeanor charges, including assault on a female and resisting an officer in March of this year. You know the story, all of those charges must have been dismissed by county prosecutors for McClinton to remain free. In fact, Mecklenburg County records show that McClinton didn’t spend any time in jail this year before his arrest yesterday. In fact, his only incarceration that lasted longer than a few hours was the two months McClinton spent in the county jail before his conviction.
Something is bad wrong, people.
Update: Holy hell! Peter Gilchrist turned Laquail Wallace loose again! WCNC reports that all charges have been dropped against Wallace, who just weeks ago triggered a dog-man-chopper dragnet for his capture on violent home invasion charges.
Then WCNC reported:
His most recent crime: Detectives say it was another home invasion where he held a gun to a woman’s head while her 6-year-old son was asleep in the other room.
Charlotte’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team – VCAT – is looking for Laquail Wallace.
He has many faces. You can see his many mugshots on the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Web site. He’s been convicted of many crimes and is awaiting trial on several others, including assault on a female, assault on a police officer, armed robbery and hit and run to name a few.
The detective working the crime he’s most recently charged with, Mike Peacock, said, “Laquail Wallace is a pretty dangerous guy. He has a history of violent offenses. He even has a few names.”
And now he is on loose. Again. Unbelievable.
