Prosperity and glee ? that’s my message. Now spread the word!

What this is all about is how the tag “message of hope” has been attached to John Edwards with apparently no interest whatsoever in the details, if any, of that message. It’s pure fluff. It’s akin to offering “Season’s Greetings” at Christmas when you’re not a Christian but don’t want to sound Scroogish. It sounds pleasant and jolly, but it’s so devoid of meaning even the ACLU doesn’t bother to humbug it while they boldly fight viewable nativity scenes.

“Message of hope” sounds nice but says nothing substantial ? after all, putting the substance to the fluff would prompt examining the substance. This apparently is not welcome, so instead we’re essentially told the senator from North/South Carolina (the answer depends upon the state with the nearest election) has a “message of hope,” and that should be enough for us.

A Google search of just news sites yielded 107 results for Edwards convention “message of hope.” Here are a few excerpts (from results 1-10):

Edwards offers message of ‘hope’ to ‘1 America’? … Edwards delivers message of hope, touches on policy proposals? … John Edwards’ message of hope on Wednesday … John Edwards had a message of hope and opportunity … the theme his campaign took from the Edwards primary campaign, the message of hope … The Democratic Party’s weeklong message of hope … Atlanta lawyer Stephen Leeds, an Edwards delegate at the convention, said Edwards “hit a home run.” “It’s a message of hope and optimism …”

Anyway, message of prosperity and glee, everyone.
