From last Wednesday’s Raleigh News & Observer comes revealing comments from kids about the effect on their psyches of so called high-stakes end-of-grade testing. While some teachers and parents fret over the pressure and bemoan “teaching to the tests,” the kids seem to be doing just fine. Especially Amelia Sanville, age 9, and a third-grader at Hope Valley Elementary in Durham. I like this kid; she’s got spunk.

“I went to bed half an hour early; then I had a big breakfast — Toaster Strudel, bacon and a hard-boiled egg. The test, it was like so easy, as easy as annoying my sister.”
